Form Strategy
The existing site of White Bay Power Station has a rich history that holds significance and meaning for the community at large. For this reason, rather than altering the existing, it is retained and highlighted. A strong dialogue between existing and proposed allows for placemaking and new history to be made.
Morphology Study
Iterations of the sites unique existing morphology allows for the language of the site to be continued
"Bringing the outside in"
This approach allows the site to have a connection to the outside and open up the space.
Application
This approach is applied to site, resulting in a form that pierces the centre of the boiler and creates a centre point that users gravitate to
Contour Study
Using contour mapping studies creates connection between the existing site and the physical site that gives depth in meaning
"Mimick landscape"
This approach gives a unique form that is site specific and iterated to fit the existing site
Application
This approach is applied, contrasting the existing linear form and creating a strong language between existing and proposed

EDI + Sustainability
Inclusive and sustainable design is an essential part of the design proposal so that all can access and use spaces set in the 21st century urban context.

The design of reshore aligns with Design for Access and Mobility and The Disability Discrimination Act. But to go a step further, reshore provides a variety of spaces and functions to cater for a range of people and their needs. It is a sustainable proposal that uses a closed loop cycle approach to materials.

A special focus upon inclusivity to First Nations people and designing for Country is drawn upon, especially through the design process of materiality, pattern and specification. As a marginalised group and with a lack of local and national recognition and inclusivity, it is important, especially in reshore's design of interweaving histories, to weave their story throughout.
Material Strategy
In the 21st century context, sustainability isn't an afterthought in the design process anymore. It is a foundational element that stems right from the conception of a design. This approach is applied to the material strategy of reshore and uses a closed loop cycle approach.

But to make the material strategy site specific and grounded in place, the sourcing of materials are either locally sourced or sourced from the site itself. This, combined with new cutting edge material technology makes up the approach for reshore's material strategy.
Repurposing post-construction material
Post-construction waste material is repurposed and used in the design of reshore
Reclaiming stripped site materials
Using the existing materials that are stripped for construction and reclaiming it for use in the new proposal give it another life
Locally sourced aggregates and pigments
Using locally sourced pigments, rocks and aggregates and incorpoarting this in the process of materiality gives another layer of meaning to the spaces
