Just around the corner from the museum, you arrive at the library. The sun hits you as soon as you step into the space. It's bright, it's spacious. You browse through some books, but a specific one comes to mind. You walk over to the information desks and it leads you to a world of knowledge. You absorb it, you grow.

Grass mound section - The grass mound along the existing brick walls brings an element of nature inside. It is an area to sit back, relax, read a book or gather with others. It's base is built with organic material, packing down local soil and clay, with grass grown over. The grass meets flush with the tile and is maintained through the year.

The new librarian.

Wayfinding detail - the information desk links to the LED floor inlay and light boxes, and leads the user to the book they are after. Whilst some may have more time to browse, others may want to find books fast and efficiently. This smart intergrated system enables this efficient process to take place.

Bookshelf-assembly-GIF.gif

Bookshelf assembly - This bookshelf is like no other. Its form, materiality and function makes it unique. Reclaimed burnished steel pillars shaped as I beams hug the perimeter of the curved void. Recycled post-consumer spotted gum timber shelving is then added. Light boxes that encase each individual book are then fixed, integrated into the wayfinding system. The result is a smart functioning bookshelf that is pleasing to the eye and is easy to use.

Bookshelf detail - The I beam form made of reclaimed burnished steel is used as a pillar for the bookshelf, on which custom carved post-consumer spotted gum sits upon. The book the user wants is encased between two light boxes that glows yellow. Any books that are unavailable glow red. It's as simple as that. The spotted gum bookshelf nicely compliments the 'terrazzo' flooring from which any waste parts of the timber is made from. Nothing was wasted.

Computer-stand-assembly-GIF.gif

Information stand assembly- The computer stand is the point where users go to if they need any help with anything - from finding where a book is located, to book recommendations. Motion sensors in the floor adjust the table height automatically to the person, and turns the hologram on. The I beam form makes an appearance again, creating a continual lanugage through all spaces. It's simple, it's user friendly, and it caters to a range of needs.

Hollogram detail JPG.jpg

Information stand hollogram detail- Upon the users step to the stand, the hologram, lit up from the cavity in the table, turns on. Speak to the it, and one finds what they need in an instant. Post-consumer blackbutt timber with a charred treatment makes the tabletop of the information stand, and gives a scent reminiscent of the burnt bush. Follow the yellow light.
